Just a reminder we'll be back on January 6th. Enjoy the holidays!

Dec 23, 2019

After any great adventure, there's a very good chance the life you come back to is not nearly as exciting or engaging as the adventure you recently finished. For many adventurers, this can lead to a pretty dark time in their life known as post-adventure depression.

Today we're chatting again with Joe Jiminez (from episode 443) who recently finished the Pacific Crest Trail. He's currently dealing with post-adventure life and was kind enough to share his feelings and experience from what he calls an epic adventure and transitioning back to normal life.

Thomas recently became an empty nester and decided a grand adventure was what he needed. He got together with Churchill Clark, the great-great-great-great grandson of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to build a dugout canoe named Bella from a 20 foot Douglas Fir.

He traced his path along the Missouri River all the way to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, a 5-month expedition along the same route Lewis and Clark took when returning to the East Coast.

This epic tale includes everything from puppies, bow fishing, and flooded rivers, to quaint towns, and peaceful moments of solitude.

A book about the experience will be released in March of 2020. You can preorder it here:

Shawn Forry joins us today to recount how he and Justin Lichter thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in the winter. This is no small feat and as far as records tell, no one has managed it before! There is a whole lot more than just the PCT in this show. Shawn has also hiked the AT, the CDT, the Colorado Trail, the Long Trail, and many, many more. All that to say, the epic thru-hiking trails are NOT off-limits in the winter with the right equipment and experience.

Jake has spent over a decade camping, climbing, diving, driving, paddling, pedaling, hiking, exploring, sailing, and failing all over the world. In his travels, he noticed that there were a ton of folks who booked organized and pre-planned travel experiences and many folks who do completely solo adventures, but not much in between.

After many conversations about the missing travel experience in between the two, he and his wife started Lost Travel Company, a middle ground between planned travel and solo adventures for folks who want a true adventure with the camaraderie of group travel and the freedom to adventure how they want to.
